Mentioning a teammate in a document is a simple way to loop them into updates, questions, or next steps—without sending a separate message.

When to use mentions

Use a mention when you want to:

  • Get someone’s attention on a specific section of a document

  • Ask a question or leave a comment for a teammate

  • Notify someone that a document needs review or action

How to mention a user

  1. Open the document you’re working in.

  2. Highlight the section of text you want to reference and click the + comment icon.

  3. Type @ and either select a user from the list or keep typing to narrow it down.

  4. Add your message and save the comment.

Once mentioned, the user will be notified that they were tagged in the document.

What happens after you mention someone

  • The mentioned user receives a notification letting them know where they were tagged (unless they’ve opted out of mention notifications in their settings).

  • The mention appears directly in the document for easy context.

  • Anyone with access to the document can see the mention.

Notifications

All standard SixFifty users are automatically opted into getting in-app and email notifications when someone mentions them in a comment or reply.

Client portal users will receive an email-only notification.

How to opt in or out of @mention notifications

  1. Click Profile in the top-right corner of the platform.

  2. Go to Personal > Notifications.

  3. Under Direct Mentions, choose whether you want to receive in-app notifications, email notifications, or both.

Who can be mentioned in a document?

You can only mention users who already have access to the document, including:

  • Admins

  • Contributors

  • For Consultant subscriptions: Guest users with access via a Client Portal to the document you are trying to tag them in.
